Retailers are very good at telling you how much you are saving.
The problem is that a large percentage discount does not always mean a genuinely good price.
At Spend Less. Get More., we look beyond the headline offer and check what the product normally sells for, how the current price compares with previous prices, whether another retailer is cheaper, and whether the item is actually available in useful sizes or options.
We only feature offers we believe represent worthwhile value.
What we check
The current price
We start with the amount you are actually expected to pay.
This includes:
- the product price
- mandatory delivery charges
- automatically applied discounts
- any genuine voucher code required
- membership restrictions
- whether the price depends on finance, trade-in or cashback
We do not present a finance price, trade-in value or possible cashback as though it were a normal cash discount.
The typical selling price
A retailer’s claimed RRP can be useful, but it does not always reflect what customers usually pay.
We compare the current offer with the product’s typical selling price using available price history and verified retailer prices.
This helps us distinguish between:
- a genuine price drop
- a normal sale price
- a weak discount against an inflated RRP
Where there is limited price history, we say so.
Previous prices
We check how the current price compares with prices we have previously recorded.
This can help show whether the offer is:
- a new recorded low
- close to its previous low
- better than its usual selling price
- still higher than prices seen recently
We do not claim something is the “lowest price ever” unless we have enough reliable evidence to support it.
Other retailers
A product may be advertised as heavily reduced and still be cheaper elsewhere.
We compare the total payable price across relevant trusted retailers, including mandatory delivery where possible.
Our checks may show that an offer is:
- the cheapest verified current price
- within a small amount of the cheapest price
- more expensive than another available offer
- only worthwhile because of better stock, delivery or returns
Commission does not determine which retailer we identify as the best price.
Stock and useful availability
A low price is less useful when only one unusual size, colour or specification remains.
For clothing and trainers, we consider:
- popular sizes
- number of sizes available
- whether stock appears genuinely available
- whether the price applies to all colours or only one variant
For technology and watches, we consider:
- exact model and specification
- new, refurbished or used condition
- UK warranty
- seller identity
- delivery time
- storage, size or colour variation
Limited availability is always made clear.
Our deal verdicts
Excellent Deal
An unusually strong price that compares very well with normal pricing, previous lows and competing retailers.
Good Deal
A clearly worthwhile saving and a competitive current price.
Fair Price
Reasonable value, but not unusually cheap. It may suit someone who needs the item now, but there may be no urgency.
Wait for a Drop
The price is not strong enough for us to recommend rushing. It may have been cheaper before or be too close to its normal selling price.
Deal score
Our internal deal score considers four areas:
- saving against the typical selling price
- position against recorded price history
- comparison with other retailers
- useful stock and availability
The score helps us review offers consistently, but it does not replace human judgement.
An apparently strong score may be reduced where:
- only poor sizes remain
- the product match is uncertain
- the item is refurbished or imported
- a paid membership is required
- the discount depends on finance or trade-in
- the retailer information appears unreliable
Confidence level
High confidence
Recent price check, exact product match, confirmed stock and meaningful price history.
Medium confidence
Reliable current price but limited history or incomplete stock information.
Low confidence
Limited or older data, uncertain matching or missing stock information.
Low-confidence offers are not presented as exceptional deals without further checking.
Deal badges
Alongside the main verdict, we may use factual badges such as:
- Lowest price recorded
- New 90-day low
- Cheapest verified retailer
- Popular sizes available
- Limited sizes
- Discount code required
- Members-only price
- Delivery included
- Delivery extra
- Clearance
- Refurbished
- Marketplace seller
- Recently checked
These badges explain the offer. They are not paid promotional labels.
How often prices are checked
Prices and stock can change quickly.
Where automated retailer data is available, products may be checked several times a day. Other offers may be checked manually.
Every live deal should display when it was last checked.
A price can still change between our check and a customer visiting the retailer, so the retailer’s product page is always the final confirmation before purchase.
